Friday night music and food at The Stag's Head
Continue down the road after the art exhibition opening to the local and enjoy the “Exhibition Special” with musical accompaniment. We are hoping to end the evening with half an hour of “stand up” comedy from Simon Day of Radio's Fast Show and Down the Line fame.
“48 hours from Tosca”
Join our fourth Community Opera which starts on Saturday morning and finishes with a performance on Sunday afternoon.
“48 hours from Tosca” is directed by Karen Gillingham.
After years of experience (English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne) in such projects, Karen knows exactly how to extract the maximum of musical passion and entertainment in a reduced presentation of this melodramatic tale which manages to combine politics, murder, love and tragedy – what else is worth writing about? – all to Puccini's sublime score. This promises to be an exciting 2 days – whatever your ability, join us and be part of it………………..
By popular demand there will be two performances on Sunday evening.
Price: £25.00 per adult for 2 days
£15.00 per child/student for 2 days
Basket Weaving:
“Strip the willow” might remind you of high octane country dancing but Frances Keenan will illustrate some uses for unstripped willow in the art of round basket making that will provide the opportunity to learn and enjoy useful skills long after the dancers have subsided into a pool of perspiration. A few varieties of willow will be available to allow you to play around with different colours. You can expect one or two baskets in two days.
Book in for a one or two day course day course.
Bring your own tools if you have them – secateurs, knife, bodkin. If not they will be provided. Make sure you have warm clothes!
For further information check Frances ' website – www.franceskeenan.co.uk
Price: £25.00 per day
Duck Race
Sponsor a duck and follow its progress in the famous race through the culvert and out across “moat meadow” next to ancient St. Mary's Church. A dry spring two years ago created doldrum like conditions with competitors unwilling to leave the shelter of the culvert. However, heavy pre weekend rains might equally create a white water event that has us rescuing the ducks from the tidal reaches of Bridgewater Bay – we're hoping for the mid-flow option.
Price: £1.00 per duck (maximum 5 people per duck)
Beer and Cider Festival
The Stag's Head is of course central to the whole event. Paul and Dawn have quickly secured an enthusiastic following in the local and are offering their full support as a venue and supplier of all types of food from “light bite” to “plate full” in addition to the usual wide range of beers, cider and other beverages.
Queen Camel Music Night offer the best music value in the area with their “last Thursday night of the month” show at the village hall. They translocated to Yarlington seamlessly two years ago to provide a stunning array and variety of musical skills throughout the weekend.
Misbehavin' Jazz Quartet
On Saturday night at the Stag's Head, the popular Dorset based jazz cabaret quartet Misbehavin' will play some of the great jazz and blues standards alongside self penned songs exhibiting their full musical mastery. Helen Porter enthrals the audience with her dramatic and seductive voice, complemented with exuberant solos from Karen Wimhurst on clarinet and bass clarinet. They are accompanied by the solid rhythm section of Robin Walter on rhythm guitar, with double bass mastery from Pete Brandt thrown in. The wide ranging experience brought together in this unique band combines musical virtuosity with sassy entertainment.
